Below the plot ca. 100m is a house. There is an ATV trail along the NE edge of the plot which was not there earlier this spring. There is a large timber clearing on the N flank of this knob. On the flat below the plot is a tree stand w/ a 50 gal. barrel automatic deer feeder. Upslope towards the knob ca. 30m from plot is a property line marked with red paint and posted signs.;Large scattered Quercus rubra trees with Sugar Maple coming up. The ground cover is very sparse with little Oak regeneration. This is likely a result of deer browse. All the overstory Oak trees in this patch appear to be marked for a timber cut. I do not remember these markings from my last visit to this patch in April. A few old tip mounds scattered across the patch. Revisit on 10/9/2008. No new species. The ACSA is a beautiful shade of yellow.
Representativeness
Nice patch of Red Oak / Sugar Maple forest. Sampled because of its close proximity to the Elkins office. This stand is similar to forest on Leading Ridge above.
